Shukla and Negin Run Into Roadblock; Ending Stay At ITA Central Regional

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Malvika Shukla and junior Valerie Negin had their run in the main singles draw come to an end in the Round of 32 at the ITA Central Regional, hosted by Kansas, on Saturday afternoon.
"Malvika just never could get anything going today in the wind," said head coach Tom Lilly. "She just never found her game against a very tough opponent, while Valerie played some really strong tennis at times, but couldn't capitalize enough on some deuce and bigger points. Her opponent was very good when she needed to be. We had a good tournament and have some positives to move forward and build upon."
In the Round of 32 singles draws, Shukla dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Missouri's Mae Canete, while Negin suffered a 6-2, 6-1 setback to Oklahoma's Florencia Urrutia.
Saturday's action concluded Creighton's fall portion of the schedule. The Bluejays will return to the courts for the dual season beginning in late January.
