Omaha, Neb. -- Former Creighton outfielder Will Robertson was selected in late September to represent the Toronto Blue Jays in the Arizona Fall League (AFL). Robertson will play for the Surprise Saguaros. The six teams that comprise the AFL are each built from five MLB teams, the Saguaros have played from the Blue Jays, Brewers, Rangers, Reds and Royals.
Robertson spent the entire 2023 season with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Robertson smashed 19 home runs this season, delivered 57 RBI and swiped nine bags in 103 games.
Drafted by the Blue Jays after helping Creighton reach the NCAA Tournament in 2019, Robertson has played in 320 games in the Toronto farm system. Over four seasons he has steadily moved through rookie ball, A, A+ and now AA. Robertson is the third former Creighton Bluejay to appear in the AFL, joining current MLB player Nicky Lopez (2017) and Daniel Woodrow (2018)
The AFL regular season began on Monday, Oct. 2 and runs through Thursday, Nov. 9. The play-in semifinals will take place between the second- and third-place squads on Friday, Nov. 10, at Glendale's Camelback Ranch. The AFL Championship Game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Scottsdale Stadium. The AFL is expanding stadiums to add a tripleheader at Goodyear Ballpark (Spring Training home of the Guardians and Reds) on Saturday, Oct. 14, and a doubleheader at Hohokam Stadium (Spring Training home of the A's) on Saturday, Oct. 28. The AFL Home Run Derby returns to Mesa's Sloan Park on Saturday, Nov. 4 with the annual Fall Stars Game in the same place a day later.
