Bluejays host Iowa on Tuesday
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team is ranked eighth in today's Associated Press Top 25 poll, holding steady following a pair of lopsided home wins to open the season. Creighton is also seventh in this week's USA Today Coaches poll, up one spot from the preseason rankings.
This marks the 24th time in program history that Creighton has been in the AP Top 10 at any point, with all but one of those weeks happening under head coach Greg McDermott. Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022).
Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 124 times in program history, with 96 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 154-63 all-time as a ranked team, including a 120-51 figure under McDermott. Creighton has now been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott's 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.
Creighton is one of four BIG EAST Conference schools in the poll, joining No. 4 Marquette, No. 5 Connecticut and No. 21 Villanova. Kansas is atop the poll, just ahead of Purdue, Arizona, Marquette and UConn.
In other Creighton news from Monday, senior center Ryan Kalkbrenner was named a Preseason Third Team All-American by Sporting News.
The Bluejays have a pair of home games this week, starting with Tuesday night's 9 p.m. Gavitt Tipoff Games contest vs. Iowa. CU also hosts Texas Southern at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
