Men's Basketball Now 9th in NET; 12th in AP Poll

Bluejays will enter BIG EAST play 9-2
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team is ranked 12th this week's Associated Press poll. That's in addition to the program's No. 9 NET ranking and being voted No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches poll.
CU split a pair of games last week, losing at UNLV on Wednesday before posting an 85-82 win vs. Alabama on Saturday. That moved the Bluejay record to 9-2 on the season at the conclusion of non-conference play.
 Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022). CU owns 27 weeks in the AP Top 10 in its history, with all but one of those recognitions coming during Greg McDermott's tenure.
Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 129 times in program history, with 101 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 161-65 all-time as a ranked team, including a 127-53 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott's 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.
Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the top 25, joining No. 5 Connecticut and No. 6 Marquette. Purdue is atop the poll, just ahead of Kansas, Houston and Arizona.
Creighton is also one of seven schools in the country with both its men's and women's teams ranked in this week's AP Top 25, joining Baylor, Gonzaga, Marquette, North Carolina, Texas and Connecticut.
The Bluejays return to the court on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Central when it hosts Villanova (7-4) on FS1 in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. Creighton will retire Doug McDermott's No. 3 jersey in a ceremony approximately 20 minutes before the game.
