Bluejays soar after a pair of impressive road wins
OMAHA, Neb. -- Two dominant road wins catapulted the Creighton men's basketball team to 10th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Bluejays are also 11th in this week's USA Today Coaches poll, and fourth in the NCAA's initial NET rankings of the winter.
The improvement from 15th in the AP poll and 14th in the Coaches poll came after Creighton won 79-65 at Oklahoma State on Thursday and 89-60 at Nebraska on Sunday. The win over the Cowboys was OSU's second-largest margin in a non-conference home loss since 1978, while Sunday's triumph was NU's largest non-conference home loss since 1938.
The Bluejays are now 7-1 overall.
This marks the 26th time in program history that Creighton has been in the AP Top 10 at any point, with all but one of those weeks happening under head coach Greg McDermott. Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022).
Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 127 times in program history, with 99 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 159-64 all-time as a ranked team, including a 125-52 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott's 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.
Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the top 25, joining No. 5 Connecticut and No. 8 Marquette. Arizona is atop the poll, just ahead of Kansas and Houston.
The Bluejays will focus on final exams this week before taking the floor on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Central Michigan. That game will be broadcast on FS2 and 1620 The Zone.
