Ronsiek Surpasses 1,000 Points as Women's Basketball Rolls To Sixth Straight Win

Omaha, Neb. --Â Emma Ronsiek (Sioux Falls, S.D.) became the 31st player in Creighton history to surpass 1,000 career points as the Bluejay women's basketball team rolled to a 73-53 victory over Xavier on Sunday, Feb. 12th.
Ronsiek entered Sunday needing just 10 points to reach 1,000, the junior reached that milestone with 2:20 left in the third quarter on a fade away jumper to give Creighton a 52-30 lead.
The victory pushed Creighton to 18-6 on the season and 12-4 in BIG EAST action, while Xavier dropped to 7-18 overall and 0-16 in conference play.
Creighton led 12-8 as Morgan Maly (Crete, Neb.) buried a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the first quarter. The halftime edge grew to 36-19, with freshman Kiani Lockett (Minneapolis, Minn.) contributing 10 of her career-high 13 points before the break.
The Bluejay lead stood at 57-34 after three quarters, all but ensuring a 15th straight loss for Xavier.
The Bluejays finished the game making 13-of-24 three-pointers, with four Bluejays making more than one. Lauren Jensen led CU with 15 points and hit 4-of-5 trifectas in the victory.
Junior Lauren Jensen (Lakeville, Minn.) led Creighton with 15 points, while Lockett and Ronsiek closed the game with 13 and 10 points respectively. Xavier got a game-high 17 points from Nila Blackford and 11 from Courtney Prenger in the loss.
Owners of the league's longest active winning streak, the Bluejays seek a seventh straight win on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. (CT) game at No. 4 Connecticut.
