Bluejays seek ninth straight win on Tuesday at Providence
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team climbed five spots to No. 18 in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll after defeating then-No. 21 Connecticut on Saturday. CU's eight straight wins are tied for the nation's longest winning streak, and tops among all ranked teams.
Creighton's No. 18 placement is its best ranking since being No. 7 on Nov. 28th following a 6-1 start to the season. The Bluejays have not played as the nation's No. 18 team since a 101-80 win over No. 6 Villanova on Feb. 16, 2014, and are 4-0 all-time when ranked 18th.
The Bluejays are also up to 13th in the NCAA's NET rankings, matching its best placement since mid-January of 2021. The Bluejays also returned to the USA Today Coaches poll for the first time since December 5th, moving from unranked to 19th in Monday's edition.
Including today's ranking, Creighton (17-8, 11-3 BIG EAST) has now been ranked 120 times in program history, with 92 of those weeks coming under the direction of Greg McDermott. Creighton is 150-59 all-time as a ranked team, including a 116-47 mark under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in nine of McDermott's 13 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival. Creighton's best AP ranking ever is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 9, 2020, March 16, 2020, Jan. 4, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022).
Creighton returns to the court on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. Central game at No. 24 Providence (18-7, 10-4 BIG EAST). That contest can be watched on FS1 and heard on 1620 The Zone and 101.9 The Keg.
