Sophomores Katherine Lemke and Eleanor Hudepohl both finish in top-five
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Top-five finishes from sophomores Katherine Lemke and Eleanor Hudepohl helped the Creighton women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Tuesday. Lemke placed third while Hudepohl was fourth among the 80 participants.
Lemke opened with rounds of 73 and 77 on Monday before a final round 80 on Tuesday to place third with a 231 total. The lefty now owns four top-five finishes in seven events during her sophomore season, and eight times overall in her collegiate career.
Hudepohl's attempt to win back-to-back tournaments was sidetracked after an opening-round 79 before the Cincinnati product rallied with consecutive 76s to take fourth place. It was also her fourth top-five finish of the season and seventh career appearance in the top-five.
Senior Katie Allen tied for 32nd following scores of 80, 82 and 81 while freshman Mia Gaboriau tied for 38th with scores of 82, 81 and 82.
Rounding out the line-up was junior Gabby Tremblay, who completed circuits of 86, 82 and 88 to tie for 61st place.
Houston Christian's Elise Parel (72-77-77=226) won the event by one shot over teammate Lou Rousselot (79-74-74=227). Creighton finished third in the field of 15 teams with a 949 total following rounds of 314, 316 and 319, ahead of regional rivals Drake (8th place) and Omaha (9th). Houston Christian won the tournament by 11 shots over runner-up over UT Rio Grande Valley with a 921 aggregate. The tournament was held at Corpus Christi Country Club, which measured 6,112 yards on its par 72 layout.
The Bluejays return to the course March 6-7 in McAllen, Texas, at the UTRGV Women's Golf Invitational.
