Malvika Shukla & Leanne Kendall Sweep Women’s Tennis BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Malvika Shukla earned BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week; Shukla and Leanne Kendall nabbed BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week
OMAHA, Neb. – For the third time this season, junior Malvika Shukla (Mumbai, India) has earned BIG EAST Female Singles Player of the Week, while Shukla and graduate transfer Leanne Kendall were named BIG EAST Female Doubles Team of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Shukla has now earned three BIG EAST Single Player of the Week honors and two BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week honors in her career, while owning a team-best 13-1 record in singles play this spring. This is Kendall's second BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week award, also earned the accolade on Feb. 6.
Shukla boasted a 3-1 record last week, highlighted by a pair of victories over conference opponents at the top singles position. The junior opened the week with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets victory over St. Francis Illinois' Anna Bintsarovskaya as Creighton cruised to a 7-0 sweep. Shukla followed with an essential 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Villanova's Emma Brogan as the Bluejays' narrowly surpassed the Wildcats, 4-3. Shukla capped off the week by recording her 13th consecutive singles victory of the spring by defeating Butler's Natalia Boesing in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Shukla and Kendall teamed up for a 3-0 mark from the top doubles position, helping Creighton earn the doubles point in all three matches. The duo teamed up for a 6-2 victory over Rochester's Josephine Libby and Sanjana Karnam to open the week, before taking down a pair of BIG EAST foes at the top doubles slot. The tandem knocked off Villanova's Emma Brogan and Valieriia Kornieva, 6-2, on Tuesday, before soaring past Connecticut's Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou, 6-0, on Friday.
The Creighton women's tennis team returns to the court on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m. when they travel to face Wyoming in Laramie.
