Baseball Drops 12-2 Finale at Wichita State

Wichita, Kan. -- Creighton Baseball suffered a 12-2 loss in seven innings in the series finale at Wichita State on Sunday, March 19.
The loss moved the Bluejays down to 7-7, while the Shockers are now 10-8.
Creighton took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as grad transfer Tyler Lozano blasted a solo home run and senior Sterling Hayes delivered an RBI double to right center. Lozano's round tripper came with two outs in the frame, while freshman Ben North followed with a double to left. After an infield single by senior Jack Grace put Bluejays at the corners, Hayes roped another two base hit.
Wichita State answered quickly and often, scoring one in the first, three in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth to build a 10-2 edge. The Shockers put the game away with a pair in the seventh.
Creighton starter Justin Kleinsorge took the loss (1-1), allowing four runs on three hits and two walks in 1.2 innings. Wichita State's Payton Tolle went the distance to earn the win (4-0), allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings.
Creighton returns home for a intrastate rivalry meeting with Nebraska on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m. The game will be televised throughout the state on Nebraska Public Media.
