Sophomore earns third career honor
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton sophomore Katherine Lemke has been named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week after winning the Stampede at the Creek on Tuesday. Lemke shares the honor with St. John's grad student Jessie Kweon and Xavier junior Emma McMyler, who were also medalists at their respective tournaments.
Lemke took home medalist honors for the third time in her career with a one-shot win at the Stampede at the Creek to help lead the Bluejays to a team title as well. The Geneva, Ill., native fired rounds of 73, 72 and 74 to pick up her third career victory, and first win since taking home medalist honors at last year's BIG EAST Championship.
Â
Lemke, who owned a tournament-high 11 birdies in the 54-hole event, birdied her 12th, 13th and 14th holes on the back nine to vault from third to first place, then held on down the stretch.
Â
The sophomore owns five rounds of par or better this season, and also has finished in the top-five in five of 10 tournaments played this season.
Â
The team victory was also Creighton's second of the season, joining the crown from the Kelsey Chugg Invitational last September.
This is the third time that Lemke has been recognized by the BIG EAST, having also won the award October 13, 2021 as well as September 21, 2022.
Creighton tees it up next week at the BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep in Hardeeville, S.C , from April 17-19. Lemke won that event last year to become the program's first conference champion in history.
