OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton's Lauren Jensen and Ryan Kalkbrenner have been named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association 21st Annual Scholar-Athlete Team, presented by ARMS Software. Jensen is one of 11 women nationally to be recognized, while Kalkbrenner is one of 10 men to be honored.
A two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Kalkbrenner was named First Team All-BIG EAST and Field of 68's National Defensive Player of the Year after leading the Bluejay men's basketball team to the Elite Eight in 2022-23. The 7-foot-1 center averaged 15.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game while ranking third nationally with his 69.5 percent marksmanship from the field. Kalkbrenner was named First Team All-District by the USBWA and NABC and has played in more NCAA Tournament victories than any player in program history. Jensen scored nine points or more in all 31 starts for the Bluejays, who finished 22-9 overall, and was named First Team All-BIG EAST. The Lakeville, Minn,. product is pursuing a degree in Sociology.
"I am excited to congratulate this year's men's and women's scholar-athlete teams as well as those selected to receive postgraduate scholarship awards," stated Division I-AAA 2nd Vice President, I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team Selection Committee Chair and Director of Athletics at the University of North Carolina Asheville, Janet R.
