
Sis Guides U-21 USA Volleyball Team To Title Match of Pan American Cup

Sis has big first set to help CU dominate.
Nogales, Sonora, Mexico - - Rising Creighton junior Norah Sis guided the USA Volleyball Under-21 National Team into the Gold Medal Match with a 3-0 win over Cuba on Saturday evening in the semifinal round of the U21 Women's NORCECA Pan American Cup. The US won the match with a 25-15, 25-13, 25-20 sweep.
Sis returned to the starting line-up and never left the floor in the first two sets. Sis owned four kills in six swings during the first set, adding a dig. She also authored serving runs of 6-0 and 4-0 while picking up her second ace of the tournament.Â
The second set saw Sis contribute an ace, a kill and two more digs. Sis played the first 25 points of the final frame, during which time the US built a 16-9 lead. The US lead was trimmed to two on three occasions (20-18, 21-19 and 22-20) before the Americans regrouped to close out their fifth consecutive sweep in the tournament.
Sis tallied five kills on 10 swings while hitting .400, also adding three dig and a pair of aces in a match-high 16 serves. For the tournament Sis now owns 24 kills and is hitting .477 in 44 swings. She also has three blocks, three aces and 10 digs.
The US owned a 41-30 advantage in kills, 7-6 edge in blocks and owned 10 of the 11 aces in the contest. The US hit .452 compared to Cuba's .172 mark.
Sis and USA Volleyball return to the court on Sunday at 10 p.m. Central against the winner of Saturday's 10 p.m. Central semifinal between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Sunday's final will be live streamed on Facebook Live at Codeson Sonora.
The 2022 BIG EAST Player of the Year and a two-time BIG EAST Tournament MVP, Sis averaged 4.33 kills per set and 2.51 digs per set for a Creighton team that won the BIG EAST regular-season and Tournament titles. The Papillion, Neb., product has been named an AVCA All-American following each of her previous two seasons as a Bluejay, during which time Creighton is a combined 58-9.
Last summer Sis started all five of Team USA's matches while helping the U.S. Women's National Team to the 2022 Pan American Cup gold medal, collecting a combined 30 kills, 24 digs, four blocks and three aces on .286 hitting for the week.
