OMAHA, Neb. --Â Creighton men's tennis graduate transfer Oscar Alvarez and junior Matthew Lanahan have each earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team Honors on Tuesday, May 9.Â
Â
The 2023 Academic All District ® Women's Tennis Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for the combined performances on the courts and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America ® program separately recognizes tennis honorees in four divisions. NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II and NAIA.Â
Â
Alvarez and Lanahan will now advance and will be listed on the CSC Academic All-America Ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in late May.
Â
Earning his first CSC Academic All-District honor, Alvarez graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance with a 3.70 GPA from Saint Louis last year and currently holds a 4.0 GPA pursuing a master's in finance from Creighton. A four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete award winner, Alvarez helped the Bluejays to a 13-7 overall record, including Creighton first ever ITA National Ranking and the programs first ever No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Alvarez completed his one season with the Bluejays with 17 combined victories, including 11 in doubles play with freshman Zachary Kuo.Â

On the court, Lanahan wrapped up the 2023 season by being the first Bluejays to be named to the All-BIG EAST First Team since Harrison Lang earned All-BIG EAST recognition in 2017. The Chula Vista, Calif. native owned 11 singles victories at the top singles position, which also included a nine-match win streak from Jan. 28 to March 10. The junior also combined for eight wins at the top doubles position, while teaming up with graduate transfer Casey Ross and Alejandro Gandini.Â
