Bluejay Men's Soccer Delivers 2-1 Win Over Missouri State in Final Friendly

Kansas City, Mo. -- Battling temperatures that reached as high as 105 on the pitch, the Creighton Men's Soccer squad posted a 2-1 win over Missouri State in the final friendly for each team on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The Bluejays tallied the first two goals as Miguel Arilla and Alfie Pope scored for Creighton.

Arilla drilled a pass from teammate Jackson Castro from 15-yards away to put the Bluejays up 1-0. Creighton's second goal saw Ryan Brakke feed Pope as he flashed to the near post.

Missouri State got a goal with just under 10 minutes remaining to bring the score to 2-1.

The oppressive heat forced the teams to use two hydration breaks in each half.

Creighton will open the 2023 regular season at Stanford on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 5:00 pm in a battle of ranked foes. The Bluejays enter the match at No. 8, while the Cardinal comes in at No. 7.
