Men's Basketball team has attracted more than 5,000,000 fans in first 20 years at facility
OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton Men's Basketball team will continue playing at CHI Health Center Omaha for at least another decade after the University and the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority agreed to a 10-year extension that runs through the 2032-33 season.
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with MECA to have CHI Health Center Omaha serve as home of our men's basketball program," said Creighton's McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom. "It's proven to be one of the best venues in all of college basketball, and MECA has continued to make investments that appeal to our student-athletes and fans. We are looking forward to another great year where we attract over 17,000 loyal Bluejays fans a game cheering loudly in support of our student-athletes."
"It has been an honor to watch the Creighton Men's Basketball program flourish and grow at CHI Health Center Omaha. Bluejays fans have made this arena their home, and we look forward to continuing this successful partnership for years to come," said Roger Dixon, President & CEO, Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA).
Creighton men's basketball has served as a primary tenant at the facility since its opening in the fall of 2003, going 278-60 (.822) in the venue. The Bluejays have led their conference in average home attendance every year (except the 2020-21 COVID season) since moving into CHI Health Center Omaha, drawing more than 200,000 total home fans in 17 of the past 18 campaigns.
All told, Creighton men's basketball has attracted 5,124,583 fans in 338 regular-season and postseason games, an average of 15,161 fans per contest. That figure jumps to 15,759 fans per game when you take out the 2020-21 season featuring limited fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bluejays have ranked in the top-10 nationally in average home attendance in each of the last nine non-COVID seasons.
Through the years, the Bluejay volleyball and women's basketball teams have also played a combined eight contests in the facility. Three of those competitions were played in front of NCAA record-setting regular-season volleyball-only crowds.
Creighton University annually hosts commencement ceremonies inside CHI Health Center Omaha each May, and has also hosted NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament action inside the facility in 2008, 2012, 2015 and 2018.
