Women’s Soccer Downed By Saint Louis, 4-1

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Playing their first road match of the season, the Creighton women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Saint Louis on Thursday night at Hermann Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Bluejays moved their season record to 0-2-1, while the Billikens improved to 2-1-0.
Saint Louis struck first in the 14th minute of play off a set piece as Lyndsey Heckel headed in a goal off a corner kick from Hannah Larsen.
Creighton would get on the board in the 32nd minute, leveling the match at 1-1. Senior captain Abigail Santana intercepted a back pass from the Billikens back line, sidestepping the Saint Louis goalkeeper before firing a shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Less than five minutes later Saint Louis regained the lead on an unassisted goal by Emily Gaebe in the 36th minute. Gaebe stole a pass near midfield and raced pass the Bluejays backline beating Creighton goalkeeper Keelan Terrell one-on-one as the Billikens took a 2-1 lead into the break.
In the second half Saint Louis quickly added to its lead with a goal by Hannah Sawyer in the 48th minute. Larsen was credited with her second assist of the match, sending the through pass from midfield as Sawyer slipped past the Creighton defense for their third goal of the match.
The Billikens found the back of the net once again in the 58th minute, extending their lead to 4-1. Saint Louis' Caroline Kelly converted on a set piece, heading in a failed clear by the Bluejays.
Saint Louis closed the match with a 17-5 advantage in shots, while also holding an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Aug. 27 as the Bluejays head to the Little Apple to face Kansas State at 1 p.m.
