
Women’s Soccer Battles to 0-0 Draw Against Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Behind five saves from fifth-year senior Keelan Terrell, the Creighton Women's soccer team battled Kansas State to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon at Buser Family Park in Manhattan, Kan.
The tie moves the Bluejays to 0-2-2 on the season, while the Wildcats moved to 2-0-2 overall.
Neither squad pushed across a goal in the opening frame, while both teams were held shotless in the opening 15 minutes of play. Creighton's best scoring opportunity in the opening period came in the 26th minute as senior Azumi Manriki blasted a shot from just outside the box towards goal but was denied by the Wildcats goalkeeper.
While Kansas State did hold a 3-2 edge in shots, the Bluejays earned a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The early portions of the second half saw the Wildcats offensive intensity rise. Kansas State's Rilyn Rintoul blasted a rocket on goal off a cross, but Creighton goalkeeper Keelan Terrell smothered the scoring opportunity.
Midway through the second half, Creighton increased its presence on the offensive side of the ball and nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute of play. A flurry of attempts by the Bluejays saw senior Maddie Radke recovered a blocked shot by senior Hannah Luke and fire a rocket directly into the crossbar. The Wildcats quickly corralled the shot to keep the match scoreless.
Down to the final 10 minutes of play, the host Wildcats had one final push in them. Junior Adah Anderson fielded a cross into the box from the near sideline and blasted a shot on goal but another save by Terrell kept the match scoreless.
Kansas State outshot the Bluejays 12-7 in the second half to finish the match with a 15-9 edge in shots. The Wildcats also held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks after earning five in the second half.
Creighton returns to the pitch next Sunday, Sept. 3, when they visit Drake for a 12 p.m. match in Des Moines, Iowa.
