All 15 players in uniform score as Jays finish 3-0 on trip
NASSAU, Bahamas -- Mason Miller scored 16 points in the first half and Creighton opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run as the Bluejay men's basketball team defeated Club Obras, 111-89, in the third and final game of its trip to the Bahamas.
All 15 players in uniform scored at least two points. The Bluejays played the game without All-BIG EAST guard Trey Alexander, who departed the Bahamas following Monday's victory to attend the Nike Skills Academy camp.
The Bluejays made six three-pointers in the first quarter, including three straight by seniors Francisco Farabello and a pair from Baylor Scheierman, to jump to a 31-18 lead after 10 minutes.
Miller took over in the second quarter, scoring 10 points in just over five minutes of action. The sophomore owned 16 points in 10 first half minutes, making 4-for-4 three-pointers and 4-for-4 at the line to propel the Jays to a 59-43 advantage.
Creighton opened the third quarter with eight points in just over a minute. Scheierman started the fury with a three-pointer from Ashworth. The next trip down the two flipped roles, as this time Scheierman found an open Ashworth in the corner, who hit from long-range. Scheierman then dished off an assist to an open Ryan Kalkbrenner underneath, forcing an Obras timeout. Creighton would score the first 14 points of the second half, stretching its margin to 73-43,
Back-to-back buckets by senior Sami Osmani put Creighton over the 100-point barrier in the fourth quarter.
Miller led Creighton with 16 points, while Scheierman (14), Farabello (11) and Kalkbrenner (10) also notched double-figures. CU connected on 16-of-40 three-pointers for the contest. CU also dished 26 assists on 38 baskets, led by six from Ashworth and five by Farabello and Scheierman.Addtionally, Scheierman (9), Miller (9), Farabello (7) and freshman Brock Vice (7) helped CU win the rebound battle 56-37.
