Men's Soccer Travels to Kansas City for Tuesday Matchup

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming off a 3-1 home win over Michigan on Friday, the Bluejays return to the road to face Kansas City for a Tuesday night fight.
Series History: Creighton Leads, 13-2-1
This is the 17th meeting between the Bluejays and Roos, with Creighton holding a 13-2-1 edge. Tuesday will be the fourth time the two squads have met in Kansas City, with Creighton having won the previous three battles. The Bluejays have outscored the Roos 67-9 during the series, but the three results that Kansas City has claimed were the result of shutting out the Bluejays.

Overall the match with the Bluejays will be Kansas City's fourth consecutive home match, also posting a 1-0 loss to then No. 18 Missouri State on Aug. 31
Scoring has been a challenge for the Roos this season, scoring five goals in five matches. The defense, meanwhile, has allowed nine tallies. Setting aside a 4-0 loss to Utah Valley in the season opener, Kansas City is even with its opponents at 5-5 over the last four matches.
The scoring leaders for Kansas City is Julien Le Bourdoulous with four points on one goal and two assists and Hector Taboada with four points on two goals.

Creighton collected its first victory of the season in decisive fashion, besting Michigan 3-1 in the 11th Annual Socctoberfest. Graduate student Alfie Pope scored the Bluejays' first two goals in the opening 20 minutes with a glancing redirect in the ninth minute and by popping a shot over the Wolverine goalkeeper in the 20th minute.
Freshman Andrija Savic also delivered his first goal as a Bluejay, settling a cross from Jackson Castro in the center of the box. Savic quickly pounded the ball past Michigan goalkeeper Hayden Evans to boost Creighton to a 3-0 edge.
The Bluejays success built on a strong second half at Denver on Monday, Sept. 4 as the Bluejays battled back for a 2-2 draw with the Pioneers.
Pope leads Creighton this season with three of the Bluejays' seven goals on the season, while Jackson Castro is just a step back with four points on one goal and two assists.
Nathan Schnur has played every second for the Bluejays, logging 450 minutes. He has one shutout this season, allowing eight goals for a 1.60 GAA.
Pope and Savic Earn BIG EAST Player of the Week Honors
A pair of Bluejays collected Creighton Men's Soccer's first weekly honors on Monday, September 11th as grad student Alfie Pope nabbed the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and freshman Andrija Savic collected the Rookie of the Week honor.
Pope delivered his first multi-goal match as a Bluejay, scoring a pair in Creighton's 3-1 win over Michigan on Friday, September 8. Alfie touched in the first goal of the match from just outside the net, glancing a pass from fellow grad student Dominic Briggs to beat both a Wolverine defender and the goalkeeper in the ninth minute. In the 19th minute he took advantage of a decision to advance toward the ball by the Michigan GK, lofting in his third goal of the season with a perfectly touched ball from 25 yards away.

Savic notched his first career goal as a Bluejay by settling a crossing pass from Jackson Castro to the center of the box. Andrija quickly turned and pounded the ball into the back of the net with his left foot. Pressed into the starting lineup against Denver, Savic played the full 90 for the second straight contest in the Bluejay back line. He helped hold a strong Michigan attack to one goal on 12 shots, equaling the Wolverines lowest out of the season.
Socctoberfest History
Creighton continued its success during the 11th Annual Socctoberfest, moving to 9-1-1 all time during Socctoberfest matches with a 3-1 win over Michigan on September 8th. The lone loss came to No. 1 Georgetown in 2021.

Bluejays Face Second of Three Summit League Foes
Creighton's match with Kansas City marks its second against a Summit League for during the 2023 season as the Bluejays battled Denver to a 2-2 draw on Monday, September 4. The Bluejays are also scheduled to face Omaha on Oct. 3.
Denver was picked to finish first in the league, while Omaha and Kansas City were slotted third and fourth respectively.
Tuesday's Match Is Nearly a Year in the Making
Tuesday's match was originally scheduled to be played on Sept. 20, 2022 in Omaha. The match was cancelled due to a lightning delay of Creighton's Sept. 17th match with Connecticut, causing the Bluejays to play the Huskies on Sept. 18th. The Roos and Bluejays agreed to cancel the match last season and instead will battle in Kansas City on Tuesday.
Pope Stepping Into Scoring Role
Alfie Pope delivered four goals over 15 matches in his first season with Creighton during 2022, including one in the College Cup against Syracuse. This season the England native already has three goals in five matches, including his first career multi-goal match with two goals in Creighton's 3-1 win over Michigan on September 8th.
