Bluejays Men's Soccer Closes Non-Conference Road Schedule at Tulsa on Tuesday

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Men's Soccer closes out its non-conference road schedule on Tuesday, September 19 at Tulsa in a match slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Series History: Creighton leads Tulsa, 21-12-3
The Bluejays and Golden Hurricane have faced off 36 times, with Creighton holding a 21-12-3 edge on Tulsa. Tuesday will be the 17th meeting in Oklahoma, where the two teams are deadlocked at 7-7-2. In each of the last two seasons Creighton and Tulsa have met in the NCAA Tournament in Oklahoma. In 2022 it was the Golden Hurricane claiming the victory, while last season the Bluejays delivered the upset en route to their sixth College Cup appearance.
Scouting Tulsa (3-2-1)
Tulsa enters the Tuesday meeting with Creighton on a two-match win streak and 2-0-1 at home, posting wins over Drake (4-3 on Sept. 9) and Florida Atlantic (2-0 on Sept. 16).
The Golden Hurricane are led by Malik Henry-Scott, who has four goals this season. Six different players have at least one goal for Tulsa this season. Henry-Scott leads the team with nine points, while Tom Protzek has a team-high three assists.
Alex Lopez has been in goal for each of Tulsa's six contests, allowing seven goals this season for a GAA of 1.17. Lopez is coming off his first shutout of the season, a 2-0 win over Florida Atlantic.
Scouting Creighton (2-3-2)
The Bluejays opened BIG EAST action with their best match of the season, delivering a 2-1 win over #13 Marquette on Friday. Over their last four contests Creighton is 2-1-1, rallying for a 2-2 tie at Denver and collecting wins over Michigan as well as Marquette. The loss came at Kansas City (2-1 on Sept. 12).
Alfie Pope has guided Creighton's offense this season with a team best four goals and eight points, however six unique players have at least one goal and two others have notched at least one assist.
Creighton made a change in goal against Marquette as sophomore transfer Blake Gillingham earned his first time as a Bluejay. Gillingham earned the victory, denying five shots in 90 minutes.
Yellow Fever
Creighton is experiencing a bit of Yellow Fever over the past two seasons. The Bluejays led the NCAA with 66 yellow cards last season and have already accumulated 26 in their first seven matches in 2023. The Bluejays' match against Marquette brought a total of 10 yellow cards for the two squads. Eight times since 2000 Creighton has finished the season with 26 or fewer yellow cards.
Bluejay Fans Showing Their Support
Creighton's last two home contests have given a chance for the Bluejay faithful to shine and the fans beamed! Against #13 Marquette (September 15) the Bluejays saw better than 5,500 pack into Morrison Stadium, while the Socctoberfest match against Michigan brought over 4,000. The Bluejays have hosted more than 6,000 fans three times, more than 5,000 fans on 12 occasions and more than 4,000 fans a total of 26 times.
