
Ava Martin Earns Second BIG EAST Player of the Week Honor

Bluejay sophomore was named MVP of the Diet Coke Classic on Saturday
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball's Ava Martin has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after earning Tournament MVP honors at the Diet Coke Classic.
Martin helped Creighton to its fourth tournament title of the fall, averaging 4.50 kills, 1.75 digs, 0.25 aces and 0.25 blocks per set on .282 hitting, in wins over High Point and No. 9 Minnesota.

The Overland Park, Kan., native started her week with 14 kills, three digs and a career-high two aces on season-high .542 hitting against defending Big South champion High Point.

On Saturday Martin tied her career high with 22 kills and matched her season-high with 11 digs in a 3-2 victory at No. 9 Minnesota. Four of Martin's kills came in the final set, including three in the first 10 points as the Bluejays surged to a 9-1 lead.

Martin owned three or more kills in all eight sets played this weekend and leads the BIG EAST in kills per set.
Last year's BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Martin was previously named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 28th. She joins teammate Kendra Wait as the only volleyball student-athletes in the BIG EAST to win more than one Player of the Week accolade this season.
Creighton (9-2) opens its 11th season in the BIG EAST on Friday when it visits Butler at 5 p.m. Central, then heads to meet Xavier on Saturday at 4 p.m. Central.
