Bluejays climb after defeating #9 Minnesota on Saturday
Creighton went 2-0 last week to close non-conference play 9-2 overall. The Bluejays swept defending Big South Conference champion High Point on Friday, then earned its first win ever over Minnesota on Saturday to win the Diet Coke Classic. The Bluejays have won a tournament each of the first four weekends of the season, just the second time in program history that's happened.
CU's No. 11 ranking this week is its highest ranking in the month of September since being No. 10 in the final three polls in September of 2018.
The Bluejays are one of 17 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 35 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 104 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 112 times in program history, which is 42nd-most all-time. Creighton is 181-42 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
Creighton and Washington State are the lone two teams nationally to move up multiple spots each of the past three weeks.
CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. This is the 12th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, extending another program record.
The top five of the poll features Wisconsin, Nebraska, Florida, Stanford and Louisville. Minnesota fell from No. 9 to No. 12 and are one of three current top-25 teams that Creighton has beaten, a list that also includes No. 19 Purdue and No. 25 Iowa State.
Creighton opens its 11th season in the BIG EAST on Friday when it visits Butler at 5 p.m. Central, then heads to meet Xavier on Saturday at 4 p.m. Central.
