Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Men's Soccer found its scoring touch as the Bluejays delivered three first half goals to defeat Michigan on Friday, September 8th as over 4,000 fans helped the Bluejays celebrate Creighton's 11th Annual Socctoberfest.
The win pushed Creighton to 1-2-2 on the season, while Michigan fell to 1-2-2 as well.
The Bluejays got on the board first in the 9th minute as Alfie Pope glanced a pass from Dominic Briggs into the net. Pope was just three yards in front of the net as Briggs sent a pass to his left foot for a slight touch. Senior Giorgio Probo put the play in motion to earn an assist as well.
Pope delivered his second goal of the match just over 10 minutes, this time popping a pass directly from Probo into the back of the net for his third tally of the season. This goal saw Pope beat Michigan goalkeeper from 25 yards out as the Wolverine netminder, Hayden Evans, came too far out to challenge the ball leaving the net free.
Creighton continued to pound the back of the net in the 36th minute as freshman Andrija Savic scored his first goal as a Bluejay on a pass from junior Jackson Castro.
Michigan got on the board in the 38th minute as Alex Waggoner finished a nice play that saw Michael Leon and Bryce Blevins pick up assists to set up Waggoner as he made a run at the goal.
Despite intense and physical play in the second half, causing a total of six yellow cards, neither team pushed across a goal in the second half.
Creighton closed the match with a 14-12 edge on shots, while the Wolverines held the edge on corners 12-3.
The Bluejays return to action on Tuesday, September 12th as Creighton travels to face the Kansas City Roos at 7:30 p.m.
