Men's Basketball Up To 13th in AP Poll

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's basketball team moved up four spots to 13th in the Associated Press poll and up three lines to 13th in the USA Today Coaches poll released on Monday. The Bluejays are also No. 13 (down one spot) in the updated version of the NET and No. 21 (down four spots) in the KPI.

Creighton's No. 13 placement in the AP poll marks its best ranking since being 12th on Dec. 18th.

Creighton went 2-0 last week, defeating Xavier (85-78) before taking down DePaul (85-62) in a pair of home games. Those results moved Creighton's record to 16-5 on the season, and 7-3 in BIG EAST play.

Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022). CU owns 27 weeks in the AP Top 10 in its history, with all but one of those recognitions coming during Greg McDermott's tenure.

Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 133 times in program history, with 106 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 166-68 all-time as a ranked team, including a 132-56 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott's 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.

Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the top 25, joining No. 1 Connecticut and No. 9 Marquette. The top five teams in the poll remained Connecticut, Purdue, North Carolina, Houston and Tennessee.

Creighton is also one of four schools in the country with both its men's and women's teams ranked in this week's AP Top 25, joining Baylor, North Carolina and Connecticut.

The Bluejays are off until hosting Butler on Friday at 8 p.m. in a contest that will air on FS1 and 1620 The Zone.
