Creighton is back in the rankings after one week away
OMAHA, Neb. -- After a one-week absence, Creighton men's basketball team returned to the Top 25 in this week's Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls. The Bluejays are 22nd in the AP poll and 20th in the Coaches rankings.
Creighton is also No. 14 in the updated version of the NET and No. 24 in the KPI.
CU won both games it played last week, topping Georgetown 77-60 and then-No. 23 Providence 69-60. That improved the Bluejays to 11-4 on the season, and 2-2 in BIG EAST play.
Creighton's best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022). CU owns 27 weeks in the AP Top 10 in its history, with all but one of those recognitions coming during Greg McDermott's tenure.
Including today's ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 131 times in program history, with 103 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 161-67 all-time as a ranked team, including a 127-55 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott's 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.
Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the top 25, joining No. 4 Connecticut and No. 11 Marquette. Purdue remained atop the poll, just ahead of Houston, Kansas, Connecticut and Tennessee.
Creighton is also one of seven schools in the country with both its men's and women's teams ranked in this week's AP Top 25, joining Baylor, Gonzaga, Marquette, North Carolina, Texas and Connecticut.
The Bluejays have a pair of games this week, visiting DePaul at 8 p.m. Central on Tuesday before hosting St. John's at Noon on Saturday.
