10/14/2024 1:54:00 PM | Volleyball
The Bluejays also moved up three places to No. 3 in the second Monday edition this fall of the NCAA's official RPI and fell a spot to No. 6 in the fourth VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season.
It's the 27th time overall that Creighton has been ranked in the AVCA Top 10, and sixth consecutive week this season. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 54 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 123 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 131 times in program history, which ranks 40th-most all-time. Creighton is 216-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
Five of Creighton's 2024 opponents are ranked in this week's poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 16) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at then-No. 5 (and current No. 2) Nebraska (Sept. 10) and then-No. 4 (and current No. 4) Louisville (Sept. 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it beat then-No. 6 (and current No. 10) Purdue (Sept. 20) as well as then-No. 10 (and current No. 8) Kansas (Sept. 21). BIG EAST rival Marquette is among those teams also receiving votes.
The top 11 teams in this week's AVCA poll were unchanged, with Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Penn State, Louisville and Stanford ahead of Creighton.
Creighton (15-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) returns home this weekend for a pair of matches, starting with Friday's 6 p.m. match against Xavier that will be televised by Nebraska Public Media.
