Yuma Daijima Advances to Singles Main Draw Round of 32 at ITA Central Regional

TULSA, Okla. – Junior Yuma Daijima advanced to the Singles Main Draw Round of 32 with a straight set victory to highlight play for the Creighton men's tennis team on the second day of competition at the ITA Central Regional hosted by the University of Tulsa.
After earning a qualifying win on Wednesday afternoon, Daijima continued his run through the competition on Thursday, capturing a 7-5, 6-4 win over Memphis' Sam Reeve to advance to the Main Draws Round of 32 on Friday morning.
Four additional Bluejays battled in the singles main draw bracket but suffered tough losses to fall into the consolation draws.
In doubles play the Bluejays advanced two teams to the Main Draw Round of 32 before falling to teams from Tulsa and Memphis.
Daijima and junior Kirtan Patel fought off Saint Louis' Max Chen and Riki Koshimizu for an 8-6 victory in the Round of 64, before suffering an 8-3 loss to Tulsa's Alex Okonkwo and Reiya Komagata in the Round of 32.
Freshman Rocky McKenzie and senior Ethan Neil also teamed up for an 8-4 triumph over Oklahoma State's Ty Wunderlich and Ian Bracks in their opening round but dropped an 8-4 decision to Memphis' Conor Gannon and Harry Rock, ending their run in the Round of 32.
Daijima and the Bluejays will return to the courts on Friday for the third day of competition.
