Grant Feldman and Gavin Gerch lead the way
MONTERREY, Mexico - Grant Feldman and Gavin Gerch both finished in the Top 15 to lead the Creighton men's golf team to a 10th-place showing at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic on Saturday in Mexico. The tournament was the final competition of the fall for Creighton.
Feldman earned his sixth career Top 10 finish, and third in five events this fall, to pace Creighton. The junior tied for 10th place after compiling rounds of 70, 71 and 68 for a 209 total, which also matched the best 54-hole total of his career.
Gerch (69-68-74) was in the top five after 36 holes and finished with a 211 aggregate, the freshman's best 54-hole total of the fall. That was good for a tie for 14th place.
Owen Price tied for 32nd place after scores of 70, 72 and 74 for a 216 total.
Rounding out CU's line-up were Kyle Leydon (78-75-74=227) 63rd place finish and a tie for 64th place by Cole Davis (76-78-75=228).
Competing as an individual and not factoring into CU's team score was Radley Mauney. The redshirt freshman tied for 51st with loops of 70, 79 and 74 for a 223 total.
Creighton finished 10th in the team standings, with a three-round total of 861 (285-286-290). North Dakota State (280-280-278=838) earned a 10-shot victory over Loyola Maryland (284-282-282=848) in the 12-team field. UTRGV's Juan Luis Bethencourt (66-66-71=203) brought home medalist honors by one shot over RIchmond's Cole Ekert (69-67-68=204). There were 73 golfers in the event that competed on the Par 72 Club Campestre Monterrey course that measured 7,141 yards.
