Volleyball Ranked No. 6 For Sixth Straight Week
10/28/2024 1:50:00 PM | Volleyball
Creighton continues to gain ground, albeit slowly, as it strives for No. 5 in the AVCA poll. CU was 45 points behind No. 5 Stanford in the Week 5 poll and that margin has dropped to 39 points, 38 points, 30 points and now 27 points in the past four editions.
The Bluejays are down two spots to No. 6 in the fourth Monday edition this fall of the NCAA's official RPI and remained No. 5 in the sixth VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season.
It's the 29th time overall that Creighton has been ranked in the AVCA Top 10, and eighth consecutive week this season. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 56 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 125 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 133 times in program history, which ranks 39th-most all-time. Creighton is 220-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
Five of Creighton's 2024 opponents are ranked in this week's poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 21) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at then-No. 5 (and current No. 2) Nebraska (Sept. 10) and then-No. 4 (and current No. 4) Louisville (Sept. 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it beat then-No. 6 (and current No. 11) Purdue (Sept. 20) as well as then-No. 10 (and current No. 8) Kansas (Sept. 21). BIG EAST rival Marquette is third among those teams also receiving votes.
The top five teams in this week's AVCA poll were unchanged, with Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Penn State, Louisville and Stanford ahead of Creighton.
Creighton will play five of its next six matches at home, a stretch that starts on Friday with a 6 p.m. home match vs. St. John's.
