Men’s Tennis Continues Kearney Invite With 12 Victories on Saturday

KEARNEY, Neb. – Lead by strong singles play, the Creighton men's tennis team racked up 12 victories during the second day of competition at the Kearney Invite on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The Bluejays finished the day 9-4 in singles action, while recording a 3-4 mark in doubles play.
After dropping all four doubles matches during the morning session, the Bluejays regrouped and posted a trio of wins in the afternoon. Senior Alejandro Gandini and junior Zachary Kuo got the Jays started with a 6-1 win over Washburn's Tommy Ceccheti and Marco Romano, while senior Ethan Neil and freshman Max Stollecker earned a 6-3 victory over Matthew Earle and Graham Faris.
Juniors Kirtan Patel and Yuma Daijima also battled to a 7-6 (5) win over Washburn's Pavlos Parson and Marco Romano.
In singles play, Gandini recorded a pair of straight-set victories, defeating Omaha's Mikhail Korkunov, 6-0, 7-5, and Washburn's Matthew Earle, 7-6 (0), 6-1. Kuo also picked of a pair of wins, taking down Omaha's Pavan Uppu, 7-6 (4), 6-4, and Washburn's Moritz Pieper 6-2, 6-2.
Freshman Rocky McKenzie collected his first collegiate win on Saturday, capturing a 7-6 (4), 7-5 win over the Maverick's Jacob Dubas, while Stollecker also recorded the first singles victory of his career as he defeated Washburn's Graham Faris in three-sets 6-1, 5-7, 14-12.
Neil claimed a 7-5, 6-2 straight sets win over Omaha's Christian Trevey during the morning session, while Patel captured a 6-2, 6-2 win over Pieper in the afternoon.
Creighton concludes play at the Kearney Invite on Sunday morning.
