OMAHA, Neb. -- Following a week that saw the Top 10 teams in the nation go a combined 19-0, Creighton Volleyball team held onto its best ranking in program history at No. 6 in the AVCA/Taraflex Top 25 Coaches poll that was released on Monday, October 7.
It's the 26th time overall that Creighton has been ranked in the Top 10, and fifth consecutive week this season. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25.
The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 53 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 122 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 130 times in program history, which ranks 40th-most all-time. Creighton is 214-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.
Five of Creighton's 2024 opponents are ranked in this week's poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 16) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at then-No. 5 (and current No. 2) Nebraska (Sept. 10) and then-No. 4 (and current No. 4) Louisville (Sept. 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it beat then-No. 6 (and current No. 10) Purdue (Sept. 20) as well as then-No. 10 (and current No. 8) Kansas (Sept. 21). BIG EAST rival Marquette is among those teams also receiving votes.
The top five of this week's poll remained the same: Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Penn State, Louisville and Stanford.
The Bluejays moved up one spot to No. 5 in the third VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season, and are also No. 6 in the first Monday edition this fall of the NCAA's official RPI.
Creighton (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) returns to the court with a pair of road matches this week, taking on Villanova (11-4, 4-0 BIG EAST) on Friday at 5 p.m. before paying a visit to St. John's (13-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
