Bluejay Men's Soccer Takes Down Omaha, 2-1

Omaha, Neb. -- The Bluejays claimed a physical battle with rival Omaha, 2-1, on Wednesday, October 9. Creighton scored the first two goals of the match and fought off a comeback attempt by the Mavericks to earn the victory.
The win lifted Creighton to 5-4-3 on the season, while Omaha fell to 6-3-3 overall.
Creighton claimed an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute as senior Jackson Castro struck for his fourth goal of the season with 12:19 on the clock. Castro punched in a series of passes from junior Ryusei Shimonishi and freshman Gavrilo Civric, striking from 12-yards from the box.
The contest remained 1-0 until the 76th minute (75:39) as Miguel Ventura corralled a deflected shot by Ryan Brakke and found the back of the net from 22 yards away.
Omaha responded in less than three minutes (78:24) as Italo Jenkins delivered an unassisted goal to tighten up the match.
Creighton's defense stiffened down the stretch, continually denying the Mavericks to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
The Bluejays and Mavericks each closed the match with 16 shots, while Creighton held a 5-4 edge on corners.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Saturday, October 12 as Creighton returns to BIG EAST action with a road match against Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio at 6:00 p.m.
