#5 Volleyball Takes Command of BIG EAST Race With Win at Marquette

Bluejays snap Marquette's 28-match BIG EAST regular-season home win streak.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- All-American outside hitters Norah Sis (23) and Ava Martin (16) combined for 39 kills as No. 5 Creighton Volleyball earned a 3-1 victory at rival Marquette on Sunday afternoon.
Scores of the match in favor of CU were 21-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-13. Creighton (23-2, 14-0 BIG EAST) has now won 16 straight matches and is in the driver's seat for an 11th consecutive BIG EAST regular-season title. Marquette had its 12 match win streak and fell to 18-7 (12-2 BIG EAST), with both league losses coming to CU.
Creighton lost its first set in six weeks in the opener, dropping a 25-21 decision. The score was knotted at 12-all before Marquette used an 8-3 run to go up 20-15. The Bluejays would close within one at 22-21 before surrendering the set. SIs had six kills, but the host Golden Eagles had 17 kills and hit .293, as Aubrey Hamilton had five kills on .444 hitting.
Sydney Breissinger opened the second set with an ace and the Bluejays led wire-to-wire to even the match. CU built its lead to 8-3 to force an early timeout from the Golden Eagles. CU dominated, hitting .696 in the second set. Ava Martin had six kills and Sis had five more as part of an overpowering CU attack.
Martin and Sis each had six kills in the third set, a 25-18 Bluejay victory that gave the visitors command of the match. CU hit .333 in the game.
Creighton pulled away in the fourth set to seal the match and snap Marquette's 28-match win streak in regular-season BIG EAST matches. Breissinger had six digs and Sis six kills in the finale. Marquette hit -.091 in the final set.
Creighton hit .356 and finished with 58 kills, 60 digs, 12 blocks and eight aces on .356 hitting. Sis had 23 kills on .429 hitting, while Martin picked up her fourth double-double of the fall with 16 kills and 11 digs on .424 hitting. Kendra Wait dished 44 assists and had 13 digs, while Kiara Reinhardt topped all players with six blocks.
Marquette notched 46 kills, 59 digs, three blocks and one ace on .146 hitting. Hamilton topped MU with 13 kills after a hot start.
Creighton is back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Seton Hall.
