Senior setter is one of 14 women on the list
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton's Kendra Wait is one of 14 semifinalists named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Watch List for its 2024 Division I Player of the Year Award, presented by Nike Volleyball.
Wait is well on her way to leading the BIG EAST in assists per set for a fourth straight season, ranking seventh in the country this year with 11.04 assists per set. Wait also averages 3.02 digs, 0.92 blocks and 0.92 kills per set while hitting .350. The reigning BIG EAST Player of the Year and Setter of the Year was a Third Team AVCA All-American, as well as a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American in 2023.
Wait owns Creighton records with 68 career double-doubles and with a .353 attack percentage, and her 4,603 career assists rank second in program history. She has earned six BIG EAST Setter of the Week laurels this fall, and was recognized as AVCA National Player of the Week on Sept. 24th after leading the Bluejays past No. 6 Purdue and No. 10 Kansas.
Two of Wait's Bluejay teammates who were on a previous list of 52 candidates for the award, Ava Martin and Norah Sis, did not make the cut when the list was trimmed. Today's Watch List will be narrowed down to a group of finalists in December right before the AVCA Convention, but players not on this list can still be added in before the December announcement. The 2024 AVCA Player of the Year will be named Friday, Dec. 20, in Louisville, KY, during the AVCA Convention.
Ranked fourth in the RPI and fifth in Monday's AVCA poll, Creighton (23-2, 14-0 BIG EAST) is home this weekend for a pair of matches, starting with tomorrow night's 6 p.m. match against Seton Hall.
