Strong Singles Play Highlights Second Day of Competition for Women’s Tennis at Bulldog Classic

DES MOINES, Iowa – Powered by strong singles play, the Creighton women's tennis team racked up seven combined victories, including six in singles play to close out the second day of competition at the Bulldog Classic on Saturday.
"Another good day of competition," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Bianca is playing at a very high level, and it has been fun to watch. We are dealing with some injuries, but everyone is competing hard."
Senior Bianca Rademacher was perfect on the day, earning a pair of singles victories while combining with freshman Pippa Roy for 7-5 victory over Iowa State's Da Silva and Suzanie Pretorius for the Bluejays lone doubles win. The Lincoln, Neb. native rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Pretorius in the opening round of singles play, before taking down North Dakota's Alyssa Giupponi by an identical 6-1, 6-1 score in the second round of singles.
Sophomore Elsa Jurrens rallied from a one set deficit to defeat North Dakota's Linn Svaerd, 5-7, 7-5, 10-5, while Annika Elvestrom picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Giupponi.
Junior Ana Paula Martinez also collected a 6-1, 6-4 singles win over Da Silva, before Roy closed out the second day of competition with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 win of her own over Da Silva.
The Bluejays will close wrap up play at the Bulldog Classic on Sunday morning with a round of doubles and a round of singles play. The action will begin at 9 a.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
