Volleyball's Martin & Reinhardt Earn BIG EAST Honors

Ava Martin named Offensive Player of the Week; Kiara Reinhardt named Defensive Player of the Week
OMAHA, Neb. -- Two members of the Creighton Volleyball team earned Player of the Week recognition on Monday as the BIG EAST handed out its final weekly honors of the season. Ava Martin was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while Kiara Reinhardt brought home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
A junior from Overland Park, Kan., Martin averaged 4.71 kills, 2.00 digs, 0.29 blocks and 0.14 aces per set while hitting .429 as Creighton finished off an unbeaten league record with road wins at DePaul (3-1) and Xavier (3-0). Martin's 4.71 kills per set ranked second in the league, her .429 hitting percentage was third-best leaguewide and she was also fourth with 5.07 points per set.
Martin surpassed 1,000 career kills while putting down a season-best 20 kills to go with six digs in Friday's 3-1 victory at DePaul that clinched the program's first outright title since 2020. Her ace against the Blue Demons gave her 37 in league play, tying a conference record. She followed that up with 13 kills and eight digs on .478 hitting on Sunday at Xavier.
This is Martin's second BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week plaudit of the season, as she was also recognized on Nov. 4th.
Reinhardt helped Creighton hold foes to a league-low .097 hitting last week as she averaged a league-leading 2.00 blocks per set. Reinhardt also contributed eight kills and five assists while hitting .211.
Reinhardt had a season-best 11 blocks in Friday's 3-1 win at DePaul, also contributing two kills and two assists as CU clinched an outright BIG EAST title. On Sunday, the fifth-year senior had six kills, three assists and three blocks on .500 hitting as CU completed just the third 18-0 mark in BIG EAST history.
Reinhardt was previously named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23 and Nov. 4 this season, and once each in the spring of 2021 and the fall of 2023.
No. 5 Creighton (27-2, 18-0 BIG EAST) will host the BIG EAST Tournament, Presented by JEEP, beginning on Wednesday at D.J. Sokol Arena. The Bluejays will be the top seed in the event and have a bye to the semifinals, where it will meet the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal between No. 5 St. John's and No. 4 DePaul on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The other side of the bracket features No. 6 Villanova meeting No. 3 Connecticut, with the winner facing second-seeded Marquette.
