#5 Volleyball Sweeps DePaul To Reach BIG EAST Tourney Final

Creighton will play the winner of the Marquette/Villanova match on Saturday at 5 pm
OMAHA, Neb. -- The fifth-ranked Creighton Volleyball team will play for its 10th BIG EAST Tournament title in the last 11 years after sweeping fourth-seeded DePaul on Friday afternoon in semifinal round action at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Scores of Creighton's 21st straight win were 25-22, 25-19, 25-17. The Bluejays are now 28-2 on the year while DePaul dropped to 19-13.
Creighton had to rally to win a back-and-forth first set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes. Down 21-20 in the home stretch, CU won five of the next six points to win the opener. Ava Martin tied it 21 and later finished off the set with a back row swing. The Bluejays hit .412 in the first set as Norah Sis had six kills and seven digs, while Jaya Johnson and Martin each had five kills. Kendra Wait dished 15 assists and also led the Jays with two blocks in the first frame. Aly Kindelberger paced DePaul with four kills and Jill Pressly owned three aces during an early 5-0 serving run that gave the Blue Demons and early advantage.
The Bluejays never trailed in the second set as Sydney Breissinger served a 3-0 run to open the frame and CU moved in front 11-5 before DePaul coach Marie Zidek called timeout. The Blue Demons did draw within three points at 15-12, 16-13 and 17-14, but got no closer as the Bluejays took a 2-0 lead into the intermission after Sis' 13th kll. CU hit .481 in the second set, with Sis providing seven kills. The second set was the 36th time this fall that Creighton won the opening point of a set against a BIG EAST foe, and 30th time it never trailed in that set.
The third set was tight early before the Bluejays embarked on a 9-4 run to move in front 13-8. Creighton hit .485 in 33 swings during an errorless final frame, with a kill by Sis ending the match.
Sis registered her 40th career double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs on .441 hitting, while Martin had 12 kills on .522 hitting. Wait dished 40 assists and set the Bluejay offense to a .442 hitting percentage in the contest. CU registered 49 kills, 33 digs, 10 blocks and three aces on the day.
Pressly led DePaul with 11 kills and authored three aces. DePaul finished with 39 kills, 36 digs, four aces and two blocks on .194 hitting.
Creighton will face the winner of today's 5 p.m. semifinal between second-seeded Marquette and sixth-seeded Villanova. Saturday's title tilt will start at 5 p.m. and be broadcast on FS2.
