#5 Volleyball To Host First Weekend of NCAA Tournament; Open vs. South Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. -- The 11-time defending BIG EAST champion Creighton Volleyball team will appear in the NCAA Tournament for the 13th straight season, and 14th time overall, when it hosts South Dakota (21-9) at 7 p.m. Central on Thursday, Dec. 5. The field of 64 was announced on Sunday evening on ESPN.
The No. 2 seed in the Penn State Region, Creighton (29-2) will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history. Ole Miss (17-11) and No. 7 seed Florida State (21-9) will also square off on Thursday in a 4:30 p.m. match at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center. The winner of Thursday's contests will meet in the Second Round on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. Central, also at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Creighton clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win against Marquette yesterday in the title match of the 2024 BIG EAST Championship to earn its fifth straight league tournament title and 10th in the past 11 seasons.
Creighton had a program-record six women earn All-BIG EAST honors, including 2023 and 2024 BIG EAST Player of the Year Kendra Wait (11.08 aps., 2.93 dps., 0.94 kps., 0.91 bps.), 2022 BIG EAST Player of the Year Norah Sis (3.90 kps., .318%), 2022 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Ava Martin (3.65 kps., .332%, 0.48 saps.), BIG EAST blocking leader Kiara Reinhardt (1.51 bps.), middle blocker Elise Goetzinger (2.40 kps., 1.08 bps,. .370%) and libero Maddy Bilinovic (3.85 dps.). The Bluejays are led by three-time National Coach of the Year Kirsten Bernthal Booth, who owns a 499-191 mark in her 22nd year at Creighton.
CU ranks second nationally in both attack percentage (.330) and opponent's attack percentage (.125), boasts the nation's second-longest active win streak (22) and the nation's third-longest active home win streak (30).
Creighton and South Dakota last met in 2021, with Creighton owning a 6-2 advantage in the series.
Creighton was one of two teams in the BIG EAST to earn a spot in the field of 64, as Marquette earned an at-large bid and will make its 13th trip to the NCAAs in the last 14 seasons. The Golden Eagles will face FGCU in a pod that begins on Thursday in Salt Lake CIty, Utah.
Creighton is 9-2 against teams that are in the 2024 NCAA Tournament field, going 3-0 against Marquette, 1-0 vs. NC State, Missouri, USC, Northern Iowa, Rice, Purdue and Kansas and 0-1 against Nebraska and Louisville.
Creighton volleyball season ticket holders were sent pre-sale ticket purchase information last week, with remaining tickets being made available to the general public on Monday morning at 10 a.m. at http://GoCreighton.com/buy.
