12/2/2024 6:49:00 PM | Volleyball
Bluejays have won 22 straight matches
This is the 34th time overall the Bluejays have been in the Top 10.
Winners of 22 straight matches, during which time it has dropped just four sets, Creighton improved to 29-2 this season following 3-0 wins over DePaul and Marquette last weekend to win its 10th BIG EAST Tournament title in the past 11 years. The Bluejays have now won 35 consecutive contests against league foes.
The Bluejays are one of 14 schools (along with Baylor, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) to have been ranked each of the last 61 polls. Creighton has been ranked in all but six of the past 130 weeks the AVCA has put out a Top 25 poll and 138 times in program history, which ranks 39th-most all-time. Creighton is 230-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll. This is the 13th straight campaign that Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25.
Six of Creighton's 2024 opponents are ranked in this week's poll. The Bluejays have already beaten then-No. 20 (and current No. 19) USC on Sept. 5th, and lost five-set road matches at then-No. 5 (and current No. 3) Nebraska (Sept. 10) and then-No. 4 (and current No. 4) Louisville (Sept. 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it beat then-No. 6 (and current No. 9) Purdue (Sept. 20) as well as then-No. 10 (and current No. 12) Kansas (Sept. 21). Missouri, a team Creighton swept on Aug. 31st in Omaha is ranked for a fourth straight week, coming in at No. 25. Marquette, whom Creighton has beaten three times, is among those teams "also receiving votes". Florida State, which is headed to Omaha this weekend to play Ole Miss in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, comes in at No. 21 this week.
Pittsburgh, Penn State, Nebraska and Louisville remained in front of Creighton, while Stanford leap-frogged the Jays after knocking off Louisville on Saturday.
The Bluejays held steady at No. 6 in the nine Monday edition this fall of the NCAA's official RPI and moved down one spot to No. 6 in the 11th VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season.
Creighton returns to the court on Thursday at 7 p.m. when it hosts South Dakota in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
