Scheierman's Triple-Double Propels #17 Creighton to 94-72 Win Over Georgetown

Scheierman becomes Creighton's first man with a points/rebounds/assist triple-double
OMAHA, Neb. -- Baylor Scheierman delivered the first triple-double in program history featuring points, rebounds and assists to lead No. 17 Creighton to a 94-72 win over Georgetown on Tuesday, February 13.
The senior from Aurora, Neb,. who was honored in a pregame ceremony for eclipsing 2,000 career points, had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists while reaching the milestone with more than 10 minutes remaining in the second half.
The victory lifted the Bluejays to 18-7 on the season and 9-5 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown fell to 8-16 overall and 1-12 in conference play. Creighton has now defeated the Hoyas six straight times by double-digits.
Scheierman began the contest as a distributor, dishing out seven assists in the opening half, while he scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half. The Nebraska native's triple-double (15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists) was the fourth in program history, but the first since Benoit Benjamin had 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 blocks at Bradley, on Feb. 2, 1985. Benjamin, who owned all three previous triple-doubles, did it each time with points, rebounds and blocks.
The game turned midway through the first half as Creighton seized control with a 13-0 run to bounce to a 28-14 advantage. Another 7-0 surge late in the opening frame pushed the CU lead to 40-23, while a three-pointer in the final minute from Trey Alexander send the Bluejays to the locker room with a 19-point margin at 46-27.
The second half saw Georgetown close within 14 points in the opening five minutes, but Scheierman answered the challenge with five straight points to put Creighton up 58-39. Scheierman etched his name into the Creighton record book on an assist to Ryan Kalkbrenner with 10:19 remaining to give CU a 69-47 lead. The Bluejays went on to lead by as much as 28 at 86-58 with 4:28 left.
Alexander led Creighton with 26 points, while Kalkbrenner delivered 17 points and blocked four shots. Scheierman closed the contest with 15 points and Steven Ashworth dropped in a dozen points for the Bluejays. Creighton shot 58.6 percent for the game and made 17 three-pointers on 47.2 percent marksmanship from deep. Creighton had 25 assists against just nine turnovers, had 16 fast break points and won the rebound battle 33-30.
Supreme Cook led Georgetown with 19 points, while Jayden Epps finished with 17 points, Dontrez Styles had 13 and Rowan Brumbaugh's 11 points rounded out the Hoyas in double figures with 11 points. Georgetown shot 42.6 percent for the game and had just eight turnovers.
The Bluejays return to the floor on Saturday, February 17 as Creighton faces Butler inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse at 11:30 a.m. Central on FOX.
