Redemption Wanted for #20 Bluejays in Second Clash with #15 Connecticut

Hartford, Conn. -- Riding an 11-game win streak that began following a difficult loss to #15 Connecticut in early January, the 20th ranked Creighton women's basketball team battles the Huskies on FOX in a President's Day matinee at 11:00 a.m. (CT) on February 19th.

The 94-50 loss to the Huskies caused both coaches and players to evaluate where the season was heading. The result has been 11 consecutive wins for the Bluejays and another opportunity to measure themselves against the best on Monday.
Creighton's Big Three (Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek) accounted for all 36 points in the first half at St. John's and 54 of the 71 total points.
Ronsiek's 18.1 ppg leads Creighton, while Jensen is just a step back at 17.2 ppg. Morgan Maly join the duo to form a Big Three averaging 14.5 ppg and a team-high 6.3 rpg.

With a healthy Paige Bueckers, the Huskies have returned to their dominant form in BIG EAST play starting 14-0. Connecticut is averaging just under 33 points more than the opposition in conference action.
Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards are the driving force for the offense with 20.0 ppg and 18.0 ppg respectively. Edwards
averages 9.3 rpg to lead Connecticut.
Defensively the Huskies cause havoc as well, forcing 17.4 turnovers per game and averaging better than 10 steals per contest.
Keys To the Game on February 19 (at Connecticut)
In Creighton's 71-51 win at St. John's the Bluejays held the Red Storm without a second chance point. The last time that happened in a Creighton game it was the Bluejays who were held without a second chance point, that coming in a 42-41 win over Georgetown on Feb. 15. 2021.
The last time the Bluejays held another team to zero second chance points was against Providence in a 70-56 win over the Friars on Jan. 13, 2018.

Monday's matchup with Connecticut features an 11-game winning streak for the Bluejays and a 19-game win streak in BIG EAST play by the Huskies.
Creighton and Connecticut have both clinched a first round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament, but regardless of Monday's result a third meeting may be on the horizon.
Huskies Lend a Paw To Bluejays' 11-Game Win Streak
Creighton's current 11-game win streak began after the Bluejays suffered a 94-50 home loss to Connecticut. Coming out of the game the coaching staff re-evaluated their approach. At the same time a players only meeting was held to discuss the
outcome.
Since that time the Bluejays have been crisper on the court and showed a higher resolve off the court.
Bluejays Pink Out Auction To Close On Sunday
When Creighton hosts Villanova on Saturday, February 24th in their annual Pink Out game, Bluejay players will wear pink shooting shirts and pink jerseys.
The shooting shirts as well as two basketballs were auctioned off from February 8th to Sunday, February 18 as fans have the opportunity to honor a friend or family member who has battled cancer or is currently battling cancer by purchasing the apparel via auction (the shooting shirt can be personalized - last name, nickname, etc.).
All funds raised go to benefit Hope Lodge Omaha. To make a donation, click here. The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Nebraska provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel to Omaha to receive their lifesaving treatment. More than just a roof over their heads, it's a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need.

- Ball Security: The Bluejays cannot give the talented Huskies easy buckets in transition.
