#22 Women's Basketball Uses Third Quarter Rally To Bury Bulldogs

Creighton extends best start in program history to 18-3
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Down 39-33 one possession into the third quarter, No. 22 Creighton women's basketball used to a 21-2 run to flip momentum en route to a 75-65 win at Butler on Sunday, February 4.
Creighton (18-3, 9-2 BIG EAST) has now won eight straight games to match the 1991-92 squad for the program's best 21-game start in history. Butler dropped to 9-13 and is 1-10 in league action.
Emma Ronsiek registered her eighth 20-point game of the season and finished with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Lauren Jensen chipped in 19. Mallory Brake led the Bluejays on the boards with 12.
Creighton never trailed in the opening quarter and led 17-16 after 10 minutes, but Butler got contributions from seven different women in the second quarter to take a 37-33 lead into the half. Caroline Strande scored on Butler's first possession of the second half before Creighton's game-deciding run.
Five different women contributed in Creighton's six-minute burst. that saw the Bluejays soar out to a 54-41 advantage. It began with a pair of Lauren Jensen free throws, featured a three-point play by Emma Ronsiek, a three-ball from Molly Mogensen and back-to-back layups from Morgan Maly. A Riley Makalusky hoop snapped Creighton's 12-0 run, only to have CU counter with a three-point play from Jensen, a Ronsiek trifecta and a trey by Kennedy Townsend that put CU up 54-41 with 3:33 left in the third.
Creighton led 56-47 heading into the final 10 minutes after doubling up the Bulldogs 26-13 in the third quarter.
Butler got within seven points on three occasions in the fourth quarter, but Creighton held off the hosts to improve to 7-1 in road games this winter. Baskets by Mogensen and Jensen held off BU's final charge.
Sydney Jaynes led five Bulldogs in double-figures with 15 points, helping BU to a 30-6 edge in bench points.
Creighton remains on the road, visiting Xavier on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Central that will air on FloHoops.
