Brake Posts Career-High 17 as #21 Creighton Blasts Xavier 77-46

Cincinnati, Ohio -- Led by a career-high 17 points from senior Mallory Brake, the 21st ranked Creighton women's basketball team defeated Xavier 77-46 on Tuesday, February 6.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 19-3 on the season and 10-2 in BIG EAST play, while the Musketeers fell to 1-19 overall and 0-11 in conference action.Â
Creighton jumped out to an early 9-2 edge (6:35) as seniors Emma Ronsiek and Lauren Jensen scored in the paint, Morgan Maly delivered a three ball and Mallory Brake knocked down a pair of free throws. Xavier rallied to within one point at 11-10 to make it a game, before a late trey from Jensen gave Creighton a 19-15 edge heading to the second.
Holding a 27-23 edge with just over three minutes in the half, the Bluejays closed the frame with a 9-2 burst to take a 36-25 advantage in at the half. Creighton's late surge got started on a three-pointer from Jensen, then Brake and Maly converted layups to make it 34-25. Ronsiek converted a pair from the charity stripe to provide the final two points of the half.
For the second consecutive contest the Bluejays put the game away with a strong third quarter, outscoring Xavier 22-10 in the frame. The turning point came as Creighton went on a 15-0 run highlighted by a pair of trifectas from Maly and another from Jayme Horan to stretch the lead to 51-27 (5:16).
Brake and fellow senior Lauren Jensen led the Bluejays with 17 points, while senior Morgan Maly delivered 14 points. Xavier got a career-high 26 points from Mackayla Scarlett in the loss.
Creighton returns home to face DePaul on Saturday, February 10th for a 3:00 p.m. tiip.
