#21 Women’s Basketball Falls to Georgetown in BIG EAST Semifinals

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- The No. 21 ranked and second-seeded Creighton women's basketball team suffered a 55-46 loss to sixth-seeded Georgetown in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals on Sunday, March 10.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 25-5 on the season, while Georgetown improved to 22-10 overall and advanced to their first BIG EAST Tournament Championship in program history.
Creighton will wait to hear its name called next Sunday when the NCAA Tournament field is announced.
The Georgetown defense stifled the Bluejay offense for most of the game, but Creighton built an early 15-10 edge in the opening moments of the second quarter, capped by a jumper from Morgan Maly. The Hoyas, however, responded with a 9-0 run to capture a 19-15 edge (5:34). Creighton reclaimed the lead with a trey from Maly and a mid-range jumper from Molly Mogensen giving Creighton a 20-19 lead (3:52).
Georgetown responded once more before the end of the half, holding a 26-23 advantage at the break. The third quarter saw Georgetown scored the first 10 points to race out to a 36-23 lead (6:50). After inserting its second unit, Creighton rallied to within seven at 40-33 thanks to eight points from Brittany Harshaw.
Down 41-35 with just over eight minutes remaining, the Bluejays were unable to get any closer as Creighton fell in the BIG EAST Semifinals for the second straight season.
Morgan Maly led Creighton with 14 points in the loss, while Georgetown got a game-high 14 points from Kelsey Ransom and 12 from Alex Cowan.
