
Scherrman Claims BIG EAST Player of the Week

Scherrman guided the Bluejays to a 4-1 record this week posting a team-high .611 batting average (11-of-18) with five doubles, one triple, one homer and two walks while scoring seven runs and driving in seven addition runs at the plate. The Illinois native opened the week with a 3-for-4 showing with two doubles and two runs scored as the Bluejays cruised to a 12-2 win over UMass Lowell on Tuesday. Scherrman then fell a home run shy of a hitting for the cycle, posting a perfect 4-for-4 outing with another double and triple while driving in a season-high four runs in a 13-8 win over UMass Lowell on Wednesday. After going hitless in the series opener against Portland on Saturday, Scherrman responded with a pair of hits, including a double and three-run home run to lead the Bluejays to a 9-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Scherrman then closed out the week with another two hits, including his fifth double of the weekend in the 6-3 loss to Portland in game two on Sunday.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 12 for an intercity rivalry game against Omaha at 6:00 p.m. at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Nick Boyle, Xavier, Sr., RHP (Goshen, Ky.) Nick Boyle made the start in Xavier's 2-1 win over No. 2 LSU on Sunday, going 5.0 innings with one run allowed, unearned, on four hits. He topped his career-high of six strikeouts, set last Sunday at Florida Gulf Coast, finishing with seven Ks while only walking a pair. Boyle picked up the win to move to 2-0 on the season. His seven strikeouts led the Xavier staff to a season-high matching 12 strikeouts.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Owen Carapellotti, Georgetown, Jr., C
Had a hit in all three games this week, leading Georgetown to a 2-1 mark. Capped the week batting 6-for-10 with six runs, four RBI, a home run and three walks.
Marcello Mastroianni, Georgetown, Fr., LHP
Pitched five innings in Georgetown's 20-0 win over Cornell, striking out five batters and allowing just one hit.
Jimmy Keenan, St. John's, So., C Keenan unloaded a .563/.588/.813 slash line to go with eight RBIs and four runs in a 4-0 week for the Johnnies. The Red Storm catcher logged a career-high six RBIs and fell a home run shy of the cycle in the team's 14-1 routing of Iona.
Luke McCollough, Villanova, Gr., RHP
McCollough pitched six complete innings in a 7-1 win over Pepperdine Sunday. He allowed only two hits, no runs and three strikeouts against 20 batters.
Jason Neff, Villanova, Gr., C Neff batted .500 in a three-game series sweep over Pepperdine this past weekend. He recorded six hits and eight RBI including one home run. He also added two stolen bases.
