Creighton Closes Out the Battle at the Ballpark against Army on Sunday
Sugar Land, Texas -- Suffering its first loss of the 2024 season, Creighton Baseball fell to Louisiana Tech 12-0 in the second game for each squad at the Battle at the Ballpark Tournament on Saturday, March 2.
Following Saturday's results Creighton moved to 6-1 on the season, while La Tech climbed to 9-0.
La Tech took a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, capitalized on four straight hits to open the contest. The Diamond Dogs tacked on two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, three in the sixth and walked off the Bluejays with four in the seventh. Three different La Tech hitters blasted home runs in the win.
Held of the base paths until the fourth inning, Creighton put the first two hitters on during both the fourth and fifth frames, yet were unable to push a run across.
Creighton starter Jimmy Burke took the loss (1-1), allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over 3.1 innings. Bulldog starter Luke Nicholas earned the win (2-0), limiting Creighton to three hits in six innings of work.
The Bluejays conclude the Battle at the Ballpark Tournament on Sunday, March 3 at 12:00 p.m. (CT) against Army.
