About Seton Hall
Scouting #21 Creighton (24-4)
For the fourth consecutive year the Bluejays face the Pirates in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Creighton comes into Saturday's game assured of a spot in the NCAA Tournament later in March, but would like to reach the BIG EAST Finals for the first time at Mohegan.
The Bluejays' Big Three were all honored with a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team earlier this week. Ronsiek leads Creighton at 17.5 ppg, while Lauren Jensen is just a step back at 17.2 ppg, and Morgan Maly checks in at 14.8 ppg.
The Bluejays remain the top team in the NCAA in Free Throw Percentage, entering the game with the Pirates at 81.7% as a team.
Scouting Seton Hall (17-13)
In the battle with the Bluejays on March 3 and again in the opening round of BIG EAST Tournament against DePaul, Seton Hall looked to be peaking at the right time. The Pirates pushed Creighton to the brink in South Orange, holding an eight point edge in the third quarter.
Seton Hall's leading scorer Azana Baines entered the Tournament averaging 15.0 ppg and 17 against DePaul. Meanwhile Micah Gray added 16 against the Blue Demons.
Seton Hall is a team that thrives on emotion and Pirate head coach Tony Bozzella is adept at motivating his squad.
One area the Pirates excel is theft of the rock, averaging 9.0 steals per game.
Keys To the Game on March 9 (vs. Seton Hall)
Everyone has heard a variation of the phrase, rinse and repeat but we might need to find Bill Murray to stop the Bluejays and Pirates from meeting in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals. For the fourth consecutive season, and fifth time overall, Creighton and Seton Hall match up on the second day of the BIG EAST Tournament. It has happened each year since the tournament moved to the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Over the last two seasons the game has come down to the wire with the Pirates delivering a last second win in 2022, then Creighton answering with an overtime buzzer beater last season.
Saturday will be the fifth meeting in the conference tournament, with three of the first four going the Bluejays' way.
Flanery Sees a New Level, Closing the Season 20 Games Above .500
For the first time under head coach Jim Flanery, the Creighton Bluejays can boast about reaching 20 wins over .500, closing the regular season at 24-4. The total of 24 wins is one shy of the most under Flanery as Creighton went 25-8 during the 2012-13 campaign, three other squads guided by Flanery have posted 24 wins in a season.
