Men’s Tennis Snaps Losing Skid With 5-2 Victory Over Temple

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Creighton men's tennis team snapped their three-match losing streak with a 5-2 victory over Temple on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis, Md.
With the win, Creighton improved to 8-6 on the year, while the Owls fell to 5-8 overall.
The Bluejays quickly earned the first point of the match, capturing victories at the top two doubles positions. Senior Matthew Lanahan and sophomore Kirtan Patel claimed a 6-2 win at the No. 1 doubles spot while senior Shin Inoue and Zachary Kuo clinched the double point with an identical 6-2 victory on the No. 2 doubles court.
Temple came out firing on all cylinders in singles play, taking a 2-1 lead in the match with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 singles positions.
Creighton, however, claimed victories at the No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 single spots to clinch the overall dual. Junior Alejandro Gandini got the Bluejays started with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-sets victory at the No. 4 singles slot, before Inoue picked up a 6-3, 6-2 straight-sets triumph on the No. 5 singles court to give the Bluejays a 3-2 lead.
Sophomore Yuma Daijima then clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) straight-sets win at the No. 6 singles position for the Bluejays. Patel also claimed a three-set victory after overcoming a one-set deficit with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win on the No. 2 singles court.
"Temple is a very tough team," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "This is a really good road win for us, with great preparation for the BIG EAST Tournament coming up next month."
Creighton returns to action next Saturday at 11 a.m. when they host Nebraska Wesleyan at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
