OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team earned the No. 4 seed for the 2024 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by Jeep the league announced on Monday afternoon. The Bluejays will open postseason play against fifth-seeded Butler on Friday, April 19 at 11:45 a.m. (CT).
The Bluejays will head to Cayce, S.C. looking for revenge after Butler ended the Jays 2023 historic season in the semifinals last spring. Creighton ended its regular season slate with a 13-8 overall record, including a 4-2 mark against BIG EAST competition. The Bluejays four BIG EAST wins this season matched the four wins in 2023 as the most in a single season since joining the BIG EAST in 2013-14.
Butler enters the week with a 9-16 record overall, while holding an identical 4-2 in league play. One of the Bulldogs two conference losses this season came to the hands of the Bluejays, as Creighton rallied for a 4-3 victory in Indianapolis on March 22.
Creighton is 3-7 all-time against Butler. The Bluejays and Bulldogs have met three times in the BIG EAST Tournament with Creighton's lone victory coming in 2016 (4-3) as the Jays secured the program's first BIG EAST Conference tournament victory.
Senior Matthew Lanahan has held the top singles position for a majority of this season for the Bluejays and has combined for eight wins in the top two singles spots. Sophomore Yuma Daijima paces the team with 16 wins during singles action while playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles position.
In doubles action, Lanahan and sophomore Kirtan Patel have combined for a 6-6 record at the No. 1 doubles slot, while Daijima and junior Alejandro Gandini have collected 10 doubles wins at the No. 3 doubles position this season.

Seeding for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA ranking, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
The Men's and Women's Championship matches will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) on FloSports. The Men's Championship broadcast begins at 9 a.m. ET on Sunday, and the Women's Championship coverage starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
